This private shore excursion takes you from the Vienna river dock to Baden, the historic spa town south of the capital. Since 2021 Baden has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Great Spa Towns of Europe', a summer retreat of emperors and composers.
The Romans already used Baden's warm sulfur springs. Under Emperor Francis I the town became the court's summer residence, and after a great fire in 1812 the Neoclassical Biedermeier townscape emerged that still defines Baden today.
Ludwig van Beethoven spent many summers in Baden and worked here on his Ninth Symphony, among other pieces; his lodgings are now a museum. Your guide shows you the main square, the spa park, the casino and the rose gardens in Doblhoff Park and tells of spa life in the Habsburg era.
This private shore excursion is planned around your ship's schedule. Your guide keeps an eye on the clock so you are back on board relaxed and on time.
