This private shore excursion takes you from Passau into the upper Danube valley, to Engelhartszell with Engelszell Abbey and on to the Schlögen Loop. You see Austria's only Trappist monastery and one of the most impressive views along the entire Danube.
Engelszell Abbey was founded in the 13th century and is now home to Trappist monks who live and work here under a strict rule. The abbey church is a Rococo gem, and the beer brewed at the monastery carries the seal of authentic Trappist products.
Further downstream at Schlögen the Danube squeezes through the hard rock of the granite plateau and makes an almost complete U-turn. Your guide takes you to the Schlögener Blick viewpoint and explains how this river loop formed and why the Romans built a fort here.
This private shore excursion is planned around your ship's schedule. Your guide keeps an eye on the clock so you are back on board relaxed and on time.
