Nuremberg has one of the best-preserved city fortifications in Europe. On this walking tour, we follow the walls, towers and moat around the old town and learn how the city once defended itself. An active tour for anyone who enjoys covering ground on foot.

Frauentormauer

starting point at the southern section of the city wall near the main station.

King's Gate and Craftsmen's Courtyard

a walk through the former moat, largely green today.

Vestnertor and Imperial Castle

the northern stretch, with views up to the Castle.

back into the old town via the western section of the wall.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the route, and how strenuous is it?

The route follows large sections of the city wall and covers several kilometres, mostly flat with some cobbled stretches. Average fitness is enough, and sturdy footwear is recommended.

Does the walk go ahead in any weather?

The tour takes place mainly outdoors and works in most weather conditions; in continuous rain or storms, we'll agree on an alternative or a new date together. We'd still recommend weatherproof clothing as a rule.

Can the walk be shortened or extended to suit us?

Yes, the route can be flexibly adjusted to your time and fitness, for example as a shorter loop around the Castle. Just let us know your preferences when booking.
