Quiet wine villages, a river ferry, forgotten corners
Away from Melk Abbey and the Dürnstein ruin, this tour shows the Wachau's quieter side: small wine villages, a little river ferry and places most visitors miss entirely. For anyone who wants to see the region beyond the main route.
For repeat visitors to the Wachau and anyone who wants to explore beyond the well-known stops.
Melk Abbey, Dürnstein berth or Krems
The river ferry is a small, cable-guided boat used to cross the Danube at several points in the Wachau. The ferry ticket is not included in the guiding fee.
Large parts of the route run through villages and shaded wine cellar lanes, so it works well even in summer. Bring water all the same.
The route works for individuals and couples as well as smaller groups. For larger groups we discuss in advance how best to manage the ferry and the narrow lanes.
